Tragedy upon tragedy...sorrow upon sorrow...

Why would God permit tragedy?

Why would He allow a planeload of people to crash? Is God in that? God is in everything. But why would God allow such a horrible thing?

Well, let me ask you this. Those on the plane who die in faith as believers, aren't they instantly in the presence of God? Absolutely. From our viewpoint its a horrible disaster. But from their viewpoint they're in glory.

Then what about the others who don't know the Lord?

Do you imagine that they just haphazardly chose to get on that flight, that God didn't know who was going to be on board? God knew the name of every saint and every sinner. He knew every detail about the lives of every single person. God's in everything.

Dr. Joseline Marhone Pierre weeps as she listens
to a church service. "I lost everything," she said,
including her home and two cousins who were
trapped for three days and eventually died.

Revealing our hearts.

Why does God allow tragedy resulting from the acts of unbelievers to affect the lives of His children?

I believe this is the reason: God desires to reveal the wickedness, depravity and evil of men's hearts. He uses this to shock us into a clear perspective about sin.

A society drifts--and then what happens? In cities all across the world, it is those awful things that happen to innocent people that shock us into reality. "Something has to change," we say.

You see, if God only allowed the evil to destroy the evil, what would we say? "They got what they deserve." Then we could go on in our carefree way.

It is when the godly and the innocent suffer that we cry out, "Something must be done."

And what is that?

Redeeming the time, because the days are evil...
